Townsville - Magnetic Island

Hey Barbie.. Wanna go for a ride?

Magnetic Island was a good spot to recharge my batteries and enjoy a little bit of paradise. I stayed at Base hostel which is the closest hostel to the Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal and right on the beach front. It has a pool and good restaurant and drinking area. Included in the package was food and drink vouchers - which is always a bonus!

I hired a 'barbie' car for 24 hours. The Island can be driven from top to bottom in about 15 minutes. There is a hire option of three hours that I would recommend - as there is only so many time you can drive up and down the island singing along to cheese.

I trekked the Forts Walk to see the World War II ruins and to see the spectacular views of the coral sea - I also spotted a wild koala bear! You can feed the rock wallabies at Geoffrey Bay - there kinda cute, kinda vicious. There is the Bungalow Bay Koala Village which has its own wildlife park on site where you can wrap yourself in a python, hold a lizard, hold a small saltwater crocodile and get to know the icon of Magnetic Island – the koala..There are three daily wildlife presentations. 10am, 12 noon and 2:30pm.
